Deep wave is the tightest and most defined of our three wave textures, sitting right on the line between a wave and a curl. It suits 2C to 3B natural hair and is the texture to choose if your own hair curls rather than bends.

If water wave and body wave both look too loose next to your natural texture, deep wave is the one. The pattern is close, uniform and full of definition, which means it blends with genuinely curly hair rather than sitting on top of it looking obviously added.

What does deep wave hair look like?

A tight, consistent S-pattern that repeats closely along the strand and forms clear curl clumps when scrunched. It carries more volume than either body wave or water wave, and holds definition without product in a way looser textures do not.

If your natural pattern is tighter still, in the 3C to 4C range, look at our coily curly wefts in jerry curl, Burmese curly and kinky curly instead.

Who does deep wave suit?

  • 2C to 3B natural hair. The direct match, where the extensions move and clump the same way your own curls do.
  • Anyone whose hair reverts. If your hair curls up the moment it meets humidity, deep wave behaves the same way, so your extensions do not go straight while your own hair curls.
  • Maximum volume. Tighter patterns hold more air, so deep wave gives the fullest result of the three at the same weight of hair.
  • Protective styling. The definition holds well in braids, buns and updos.

Which fitting methods does deep wave come in?

All five, same texture throughout.

  • Nano bonds from £161.99. Small heat-free beads that sit comfortably in coarser, curlier hair.
  • K-tips from £162.00. Flat keratin bonds close to the scalp.
  • Tape-ins from £175.00. Fastest fitting, best on finer curl patterns.
  • Wefts from £199.99. The usual choice for curly hair, because rows spread weight and add serious volume.
  • Clip-ins from £229.99. Try the texture before committing to a fitting.

Not sure which suits your curl? Our guide to the types of hair extensions covers all five and who each one is wrong for.

Looking after deep wave extensions

Tighter patterns dry out faster, so moisture matters more here than on the looser waves. Wash once or twice a week with a sulphate-free shampoo, deep condition weekly, detangle only when damp and only from the ends up, and never brush it dry. Sleep in a loose pineapple bun under a satin cap. The full routine is in our curly extension care guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is deep wave hair?
Deep wave is a tight, defined wave pattern in human hair extensions, sitting between a wave and a curl. It matches 2C to 3B natural hair and holds clear curl definition without product.

What is the difference between deep wave and curly hair extensions?
Deep wave is a uniform S-pattern. True curly textures such as jerry curl or kinky curly form spirals and coils rather than waves. Deep wave suits 2C to 3B, while tighter 3C to 4C patterns need a genuine curly texture.

Does deep wave hair get frizzy?
Only when it dries out. Tighter patterns lose moisture faster than loose ones, so a sulphate-free routine and a weekly deep conditioning mask keep it defined. Avoid brushing it when dry, which separates the pattern and creates frizz.

Can deep wave hair be straightened?
Yes, it is 100% Remy human hair. Use a heat protectant and stay under 180C. Repeated straightening will loosen the pattern over time, so keep it occasional if you want the wave to last the life of the hair.

Which fitting method is best for deep wave?
Wefts for volume on medium to thick hair, nano bonds for fine or shorter hair. Both sit well in curly hair because the attachments hide easily in the texture.
