The trouble with an ordinary brush is the bristle. Rigid plastic catches on a nano bond, a tape tab or a weft seam and drags the attachment point on every pass. That is what loosens fittings early, and causes most shedding blamed on the hair.
How to brush a fitted set
- Hold the hair in a fist above the bonds so tension goes into your hand, not the roots
- Start at the ends and work upwards in stages, clearing each section first
- Brush morning and night, and before every wash rather than after
- Straight and wavy on dry or damp hair; curly and coily wet only

Can I use a normal hairbrush on extensions?
You can, and it is the most common reason fittings loosen early. Stiff plastic bristles snag the bond and pull at the root with every stroke. A soft bristle on a cushioned pad slips past instead.
How often should hair extensions be brushed?
Straight and wavy sets twice a day, plus before every wash and before bed. Tangles are far easier to clear early. Curly and coily sets should only be detangled wet.
Why should curly extensions never be brushed dry?
Because the brush pulls the curl clump apart and the pattern will not reform until the hair is wet again. Detangle in the shower with conditioner in.
