A pack of 10 loop threaders, the small tool that makes ring fitting workable. You cannot reliably push a section of hair through a 3mm bead with your fingers. The threader goes through the ring first, you feed the hair into the wire loop, and pulling the threader back drags the section cleanly through in one movement.

These belong to nano bond and micro ring fitting. If you work with rings at all, you already know they are consumable. The wire loop softens and eventually snaps after enough heads, which is why they are sold in tens rather than singly. Keeping several in the kit means a broken loop mid-fitting costs you seconds rather than the appointment.

Specification:

  • 10 threaders per pack
  • Total length around 21.5cm, with a 9.5cm handle
  • Metal wire loop with a moulded black plastic handle
  • Fitting method: nano bonds, micro rings and I-tips

How to use one: push the loop up through the ring from underneath, lay your sectioned hair into the open loop, then draw the threader back down through the bead so the hair follows. Feed the extension strand in through the same ring, position it, and crimp. Keep the section neat in the loop rather than bunched, or the hair will snag as it comes through and you will lose the clean root you sectioned for.

They are a professional tool in practice, simply because ring fitting is. Salons ordering threaders alongside rings and pliers can apply for a trade account, which is free and usually approved within 48 hours.

How long does a threader last?

It varies with how heavily you work, but the wire loop is the part that gives out and it will eventually fatigue and break. Most stylists get through several across a busy month, which is why they come in packs of ten rather than one at a time.

Can I use these for micro rings as well as nano?

Yes. The loop passes through both nano beads at around 3mm and micro beads at 5mm, so the same threader covers both gauges. It also works for I-tip fitting and for threading hair tinsel.

Do I need a threader if I am fitting tape-ins?

No. Tape-in extensions sandwich a section of hair between two adhesive tabs and need no threading at all. Threaders are only relevant to ring based methods, where the hair has to physically pass through a bead.
