(3C/4A) Jerry Curl | Double Drawn Machine Weft Bundles
Tight, bouncy curls that blend straight into natural 3C/4A hair
Jerry curl hair extensions sit at 3C/4A, a small and remarkably uniform curl that springs straight back when you pull it out and let go. The hair is 100% double drawn Remy human hair on a machine sewn weft. This is where the WAVE range crosses from curly into type 4, and it is the texture most asked for by clients with tight, dense natural curls.
3C corkscrews at about the width of a straw; 4A tightens into a small dense coil that still shows a clear S when stretched. This weft covers both, useful because plenty of heads run 3C at the crown and 4A around the nape. Choosing between this and the 4B/4C Burmese, take the looser pattern: a curl slightly wider than her own can be tightened with product, while one tighter than hers sits visibly separate.
Remy is a manufacturing method, not marketing language. Strands are kept in their natural direction, root at the root, so every cuticle lies pointing down the shaft. On a coil this tight the strands touch constantly, and cuticles running in opposite directions would matt within a month.
- Hair: 100% double drawn Remy human hair
- Pattern: Jerry Curl, 3C/4A, tight uniform curl with bounce
- Construction: machine sewn continuous weft, sold by the bundle
- Lengths: 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 inches
- Shade: jet black
- Fitting: sew-in, braidless weave or microring
Sew-in, braidless weave or microrings. Section with real discipline, horizontal and level, because a wandering track shows through a curl that lifts away from the head. Keep tension moderate throughout. The temptation on type 4 hair is to braid the foundation tight so it lies flat, and that pull at the hairline and temples is the main cause of traction damage. Start the first row well behind the front hairline. Three bundles to 20 inches, four from 22 inches, since the coil consumes hanging length.
Wash in sections, four at minimum, loosely plaiting each one as you finish so the hair cannot tangle across sections. Sulphate free shampoo at the scalp, slippery conditioner through the lengths, and detangle only with conditioner in, fingers first, then a wide tooth comb from the ends up. It must never meet a brush while dry. Moisturise with a leave-in, seal with light oil below the seam, satin bonnet nightly. Nine months is achievable.
Shrinkage on 3C/4A is dramatic and you should quote for it. A 20 inch Jerry Curl set will often wear at around 14 inches once dry and in pattern. Stretch a strand out between your fingers to show the client before she picks a length, so the reveal is not a surprise.
How much shrinkage should I expect on jerry curl?
Roughly a quarter to a third of the measured length. A 20 inch set commonly wears at about 14 inches once it dries in pattern. Order with that in mind, and show the client by stretching a strand between your fingers before she picks a length, so she can see where the hair will finish.
Is jerry curl the same as the burmese curly?
No. Jerry curl at 3C/4A is a curl, small and even, with a visible S when stretched. The 4B/4C Burmese is a coil, tighter again, with sharp bends rather than round loops and far more shrinkage. Clients on the border between curly and coily are better matched here.
How do I wash hair this textured without matting it?
In sections. Split the head into at least four, work through one at a time and plait each loosely before moving on. Shampoo the scalp, condition the lengths, and only ever detangle with conditioner in the hair, fingers before a wide tooth comb, always starting at the ends.
Will fitting this put tension on my client's own hair?
It should not, if the foundation is braided firm rather than tight and the front row sits back from the hairline. Traction damage comes from sustained pull on the fine hairs at the temples and edges, so keep those free, check for tenderness at fitting and again at maintenance, and take the set down if she reports soreness.
This texture is stocked in jet black, and the wider WAVE range extends to 60+ shades in the smoother patterns.
